The mission of SAS Pudong Roots and Shoots: (what do you think?)
To engage responsibly in the world's problems, and protect/advocate for local and global environments. (SAS EAGLES) We will do this by:
(1) establishing an exemplary recycling program in the SAS High School;
(2) establishing effective student leadership so that the recycling program is lead by and maintained by students;
(3) establishing a program in which we recycle paper, ink-jet cartridges, plastic bottles, dead dry-cell batteries, tetra-paks, and organic waste;
(4) traveling to other schools in Shanghai and teach them how to set up similar recycling programs;
Current projects: (please add your thoughts)
HS recycling (paper and toner cartridges)
Questions from our last meeting:
What is the best way to distribute boxes and advertise to both teachers and students?
Are we missing any paper (shredders, library, computer labs, offices)
How can we motivate teachers and students to think about paper use (reduce, reuse and then recycle)?
Would making them pay for the paper have an effect?
How are we going to pick up the paper each week?
Get teachers or students to donate blue Ikea bags that we can use to collect paper
Storage or destination once we've collected?
Where does our paper go? What kinds of materials are sorted and recycled? Who benefits?
How can we reduce waste (e.g. Is there a way for Parent Talk to become more paperless?)
