  • Start of the year:
  • Email Division secretary and PS administrator about Powerschool Admin and Powerteacher access
  • Test on arrival as per admission department request. Retest students as needed. Update WIDA scores in Powerschool Admin
  • If adjusting student's level of support, update powerschool with current level and communicate the change with grade level team/ homeroom teacher, parents, divisional principal, and counselor
  • Create student list of EAL Plus and Push-in students; inform teachers regarding EAL students and placement
  • Email Division Secretary (ES) with EAL Plus and EAL student lists
  • Create Push-in schedule with grade levels
  • Update Powerschool, changing predicted support to current support
  • Develop TA schedule and responsibilities

  • September Open House:
    • Prepare materials. Tips for parent resources. Decided whether you will present as a team or individually

  • November Parent-Teacher Conferences:
    • Prepare for PT Conferences, help students establish language goals.

  • End of Trimester: Grading Period
    • Gather data from teachers regarding all EAL students' classroom performance level.
      • DRA
      • Spelling Inventory
      • Writing On-Demand
      • MAP Scores (Grades 3-5)
    • Prepare report card comments. Add performance grades. Revise/edit with team.
      • Address listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Be concise, given less than 500 characters.
    • Prepare and send out push-in report card comment to grade level teachers to insert into "Child as a Learner" or "Language Arts."

  • December:
    • Review files of incoming EAL students provided by Admissions.
    • Meet with SST regarding placement for new students.

  • January:
    • Prepare for new students - check new and transfer student folders
    • Update Powerschool for any EAL changes or additions
    • Send letters to parents regarding EAL student program changes (Entering EAL Program, "Exit" Monitor students, Pull Out to Push In, Push In to Pull Out, etc.)
    • Contact Chinese teachers for any students transitioning from EAL Plus to EAL.

  • February/March:
    • 5th Grade EAL teacher to connect with Middle School for EAL transition and WIDA materials.
    • Predicted support levels are due to Admissions by determined date.
    • Set up WIDA testing schedule.
    • Gather and review WIDA testing materials. DVD is available to view for new testers.
    • Email Kinder teachers regarding potential students eligible for EAL services. Schedule testing of Kinder students. Results due to Admissions at the end of March.
    • Email/Contact teachers regarding Push-in times to pull out students for testing. Testing takes place during push-in times.
    • Gather updated DRA and Spelling Inventory scores.

  • March/April:
    • Start Kindergarten WIDA testing in March. Due by the end of March. Check with Admissions for an exact due date.
    • Start Grade 5 WIDA testing (Use 6-8 WIDA Kit for current Grade 5 students.).
      • Results due to MS VP in addition to Powerschool/Admissions by mid April.
      • Before finalizing Rising Grade 6 placements, meet with Grade 6 EAL teacher.
    • WIDA testing
      • Results for Grades 1-4 due by end of April.
      • Use 1-2 WIDA testing kit for current Grades 1 and 2 students.
      • Use 3-5 WIDA testing kit for current Grades 3 and 4 students.
    • Collaborate with teachers to determine support level for the following year. Refer to WIDA Model results, DRA, On-Demand Writing assessments, and MAP testing results (Grades 3-5) to make EAL level placement for next year.
      • Update student support level for all grade levels.
      • Update WIDA scores for all grade levels in Powerschool.
    • At the end of April, send Grade 5 placement letters to parents before elective selection forms are sent to parents. Check with MS Admin about deadlines.
  • End of the Year:
    • Send out placement letters to parents via email regarding EAL student program changes for the following year (last Friday of May).
      • Entering EAL Program - Kindergarten, "Exit" Monitor students, EAL Plus to EAL, EAL to EAL Plus, etc.)
    • Document class rosters for the following year and provide copies to appropriate EAL teachers.
    • Update student in-house files
      • Spring testing scores with support level for following year.
      • Copy of final EAL Report Card for EAL Plus students
      • Copy of placement letters and WIDA reports that were sent to parents

  • Throughout the Year:
    • Students changing levels
      • Administer the WIDA test.
      • Gather writing samples and additional data from teachers.
      • Complete checklist for classroom teachers.
      • Schedule Chinese placement testing.
      • Communicate program change. Letter sent to parents.
      • Input scores in Powerschool.
