SAS EAL - March 17th Minutes

Dodge ball tournament
- Strengths
  - Raised lots of school spirit, strong attendance
  - Advertising before was successful
  - Student teacher involvement, rather than just one
  - Strong attendance (again) in participation rather than just spectators
  - It was tons of fun
  - Help from Mr. Wrysinkski
  - Pepsi cola donations
  - Cheap attendance
  - Ready to unwind on a Friday
  - Announcements were creative (possibly create rivalry here)
- To improve
  - Brackets should have been bigger
  - Longer sign ups IMPORTANT
  - Brackets with open spaces
  - Music people with previous experience
  - Make the instructions clearer about who wins and so on
  - Label courts maybe
  - Grade nines?? Where were they?
  - More spectators - PARENTS?
  - Better way to announce to both ends of the court (2 announcers?)
- Should repeat next year, in the same season
- To up competition between grades to get the 9th graders to show up
Ms. Toah/ Toy Drive/Rummage Sale
- All week, this week (elementary school library)
- Staff Rummage Sale
  - Possible use for the drive?
- Concordia has a big one each year (really big events, but they're in the Jin Qiao Area)
- Another drive: clothes, appliances, anything, office supplies, toys, cleaning supplies (moving)
- Work with Chinese classes for advertising (literate?)
- What do we want to collect?
  - Make a list
- Date?
  - Make posters the first week back?
  - Get done before Exams (as a goal)
  - End of the year (to get moving things?) Might be too hard to coordinate
- Support Services
  - Resale makes more sense
  - Singling them out might make them feel uncomfortable (open it up to the whole school)
    - Families and teachers PTSA
    - Roots and Shoots: recycling clothes and so on
  - We should collect, rather than bring their stuff on the day
  - Would be a donation
  - Possible 100 per table thing like at Concordia
  - Sorting and Pricing will be issues (staple tags on)
  - Maybe at the same time as a PTSA BBQ because the school is out of the way? Or other events that are going on
  - Friday 3-5 would be better than a weekend because there would be more support staff here.
  - Maybe before Grease (let's run with that)
  - Lead time:
    - 1 week of ads
    - Wednesday to Wednesday over the weekend of gathering
    - 1 week of pricing? Pricing during collection day
  - Empty classrooms for storage
  - Choose date: Friday and Saturday maybe - 19th a Saturday PTSA fair thing.
  - Ling Friez to help with backup logistics
    - GET LOGICSTICS FIGURED OUT FROM A-Z
  - Name: Yard Sale, Chinese translation needed
  - Need to transport to where we'll be selling it
  - Cat is talking to PTSA
  - Set up (tables with signs)
  - Tables in circle: cashiers near the exits
  - Set up and logistics
  - Line up down the hall?
- Money raised goes to Lao Wang orphanage
- The leftovers would be donated to river of hearts brought to Ms. Manning's house
- Best to resell:
  - Books
  - Appliances (working!)
  - Clothes
  - Toys? Will be going to river of hearts
- 19th first choice for the date
- Have CAS people sign up
- Check with Mr. Johnson about people bringing their own tables! (is that okay?)
- How to create interest
  - Thermometer type thing to quantify it
  - Different classes
  - Edline and parent talk
  - Smaller kids may be better
    - Talk to Ms. Toah, point person in elementary school (sheet of paper)
    - Talk to elementary school counselor
- Store in Ms. Nordenmyere's during the day, and after school bring it to a collection/sorting point
- Huge poster is helpful, one by the busses (paper to reuse from last time)
