Deforestation By: Hyun Woo Cho What is deforestation? Deforestation is the conversion of the forested area to non-forest land for various reasons depends on the location. Because of cutting down tree many injurious things happens to the forest and that makes the quality of the forest as catastrophic. Recent time the problem of deforestation is really serious but deforestation was started since 7000BC when the fire was discovered they have cut down the trees to make fire. Now let’s know more stuff about deforestation. What are major causes of deforestation? First, colonial scheme is one of the causes of deforestation, because when the country have colony they will have trades with the colonies and take their raw materials that includes woods. They need to cut down trees to produce the woods and make a product. Second, cattle ranching is one of the biggest cause that makes deforestation because the eat plants and that make soil to erode because there are no plants to hold the soil together so landslide makes another deforestation. Third cause is Debt Burden. Between first countries and third countries they have big gaps so third countries cut down trees and make more money that they don’t need so around Central Asia that is the biggest reason for the cause of deforestation. Commercial logging is another reason but not that big compare to other reason. Lastly the biggest cause of the deforestation is settlements coming to the forest. To make spaces they have to cut down the trees so that they can build in that place, so more trees get cut down if the town gets bigger. So that makes big loss of trees. This five causes are major cause of deforestation. The effect follows when there are causes. One cause is soil erosion because nothing to hold the soil together .when there is soil erosion than there would be landslide when there are lots of rains falls at one time. No trees than there is no more oxygen producing so atmosphere pollution, there are also biodiversity and extinction of animals the major one that got extinct is Carolina parakeets, passenger pigeon, and ivory billed wood pecker. There are 7countries that is mostly affected by deforestation. Brazil forest got deforested for development and population growth, USA for agriculture, colonization and population. Indonesia for logging and company development, and Ethiopia for agriculture and population and Ethiopia lost 98% of there forest. Madagascar lost 94% because of constitution and fast grows of population. Australia is mixed with many of other regions up that have listed. For conclusion what can we do to prevent the deforestation? We can recycle, reuse and reduce using papers and wooden product so that we don’t have to cut down trees. Second we can make a day that all people come out and plant trees also called as reforestation. Thirdly we can use less energy or alternative resources. If people start to do this three things then we can have more fresh air and no empty spot that has no trees anymore.
