Q: Is there an established ESOL curriculum for the Pull Out classes?
A: No. It is difficult to prepare for your Pull Out class until you arrive. You can assess the needs of your students, then look at what was taught the year before and consider the themes the classroom/core teachers use.
Q: What standards and Benchmarks to ESOL teachers use?
A: We use the WIDA Standards to guide us for our Pull Out classes. This is also a work in progress. To a varying degree, we connect our class content to the SAS Standards and Benchmarks.
Q: How do you use ATLAS Rubicon to document ESOL support?
A: ATLAS Rubicon is a powerful tool to document a course, unit plans, individual lessons, resources, and student materials. ESOL teachers are required to do diary mapping and documentation for their Pull Out classes. Many ESOL teachers also link any co-planned and collaborative documents (ie- graphic organizers) to the Core teachers’ ATLAS pages.
