Initial draft and suggestions created 11 October, 2011
II. Assessment and Reporting
p. 6 – the flowchart from the Wiki describes the Admissions process better
Place “Admissions Process” into an Assessment page/combine with the WIDA page
p.7 – Enter p. 7 to Wiki.
p. 8 is already on Wiki.
p. 9 Clarify difference between reporting in divisions. This is already on the Wiki.
p. 10 Update middle school Report Cards in the Reports page on the Wiki. It doesn’t reflect the current middle school report card generated on Powerschool. HS is current.
p. 12 Modify in conjunction with the CEF (Common European Framework) passport format
p. 13 Take p. 13 from server (Wida Student Report) to Wiki
FYI from Elizabeth Cranley, WIDA assistant director, Nov 2011: We are busy as ever. We just received a 10 million dollar grant to create "next generation" technology-based assessments that we plan to have operational about four years from now. This project is just getting started. We plan to have our summative test online but also create a series of benchmark tests that will be more creative and innovative by taking greater advantage of technology. It's a chance to create something that, we hope, will be closer to the classroom and, therefore, provide greater information for teachers and students.
If you've looked at our website any time recently, you may have seen that we posted a draft of our third edition standards for public comment. Feel free to take a look and offer a comment or two of you're so inclined. We're still working on an international edition, but I'm not quite sure of the timeline for that. After the "regular" edition is published next spring to be sure.
Thanks for you comments on MODEL. I'll check with the Help Desk to see if an order is on its way to you. I'd have checked sooner, but I was out of the office. For a "digitized" MODEL we are thinking very basic at this point. Essentially we'll just put the current MODEL items in a computer based format. The test administrator will be able to easily navigate to appropriate tiers and multiple choice items will be automatically scored, but there won't be many bells and whistles. (Those will come from the work we're doing in our new grant project.) Our thinking with a computer-based MODEL (either Internet base or local cache) is that it will be easier and potentially cheaper for schools outside of the US because we won't be sending big, heavy boxes through customs. We're not really sure if this will be preferred or not. It sounds like you do some pretty common computer-based testing already. Streamed or cached? We're still exploring possibilities and always appreciate constructive feedback.
